I don’t even want to think of what’s going to happen when high velocity firearms are in the hands of questionably trained cops. This is such a bad idea on so many levels I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Another government answer to a non-existent problem.

A marine shoots someone who may or may not be a terrorist in Baghdad and we have congressional hearings and huge investigations, and careers are ruined. The same standards don’t seem to apply to law enforcement’s violence against our own citizens.

We believe that it is vitally important, at these intersections of heroism and atrocity, to retain that complexity and resist the reductive impulse which impoverishes our myths and denies the varied humanity of the men and women on all sides of the conflict. These songs seek neither to glorify nor to condemn, and while they do not have anything so crude as a “message,” we hope that they do contain some echo of truth.
