Major intelligence setback in GWOT

Those clever Iranians are on to us:

According to IRNA, the official Islamic Republic news agency, the national Police chief has implicitly verified the news about the confiscation of a number of squirrels, equipped with eavesdropping devices, on the Iranian borders. He has declined to give any more details, but, reportedly, when asked about the confiscation of 14 spy squirrels, he stated, “I have heard about it, but I do not have precise information”. IRNA adds, “These squirrels were equipped by foreign intelligence services, but were captured two weeks ago by the Police”.

The good news is that Agent Bullwinkle continues to evade capture.

UPDATE: Somewhat related weirdness:

The appearance of honey badgers on the outskirts of the southern Iraqi city of Basrah alarmed farmers, and locals have speculated wildly about their origins, with some locals claiming that U.S. and British troops planted their “eggs” in the region to spread chaos. The badgers have attacked farmers at night and injured many people in Garmat Ali, prompting locals to share night guard duties.

Oh, the genius. More here: Giant ‘corpse-eating’ badgers terrorise Iraqi city.

I wonder if we didn’t actually do something to encourage this.

Take a few NCOs who have that experience with critters and a veterinary surgeon.

Implant ’spy stuff’ in critters - it looks good but is completely non-functional - oh it can have watch batteries and ‘cellular’ antennas but we don’t expect it to work beyond maybe a ‘beep’ once in a while.

Airdrop the critters over Iran, or just release them on the border. Wait a few months …

Well-educated Iranians are going to know it’s fake but .. maybe not? Can they take the chance? They’ve been calling us ‘Satan’ for decades and accusing us of all kinds of nefarious stuff - could we possibly have a secret CIA division working on spy squirrels?

It would not take much effort on our part. It would cause endless confusion in Iraq and diversion of resources. Plus you can just imagine how much _fun_ this would be to implement.

Oh, man - I would be delighted to learn you’re right! That would be both cool and hilarious.

    But I’m not hopeful.
