I think women do this for many reasons. 1)to start a conversation, 2)they are interested in the man, 3)they are worried, 4) eventually there will be a man who knows exactly what to say and will make them feel wanted.

Agreed; I was not seriously suggesting assault - just joking that anyone who tries to put you in a double-bind where there's no winning move is not really your friend.

I think dff and jmd had some good ideas.

I would tend to think that assault is not the way to go, Travis.

Maybe adding 20 years on to how old you think they are would have a similar effect.

I suspect that this is the solution that would be the most entertaining of all options suggested so far. ;-)

I developed a different strategy with a sister who would always ask "How do I look?" or "Does the (fill in the blank) look good on me?" while waiting for her to get ready for different functions (She was always running late, and I am always puctual, so it was a frequent occurance). My stock answer was "You/it look(s) like sh*t". She asked me a lot less after that. Maybe adding 20 years on to how old you think they are would have a similar effect.

Well, I think that it's polite to at least reply once, in good humor, ("Thanks, but I'm not guessing your age - though obviously your asking means you think I was born yesterday"), but once you've made your position plain, I think further shenanigens can just be shrugged off, regardless of her reaction to your unwillingness to play.

you can just ignore her

Seems like a good *starting* strategy -- why save it for the fallback?

Evading is not an option in that case.

Of course it is. And if she chooses to escalate by pretending offense at your unwillingness to guess, in order to pressure you to play along, you can just ignore her.

Neither, sadly, is punching them in the throat.

I find that many women tend to ask you their age with the sole purpose of putting you on the spot. Evading is not an option in that case.

If it is a stranger and you think you may guess wrong, I would evade the question.

If it is your woman, the answer is always that she only looks more beautful as she ages.

Hands can be a giveaway. If she is a sun worshiper, add 5-10 yrs.

Some women just wear out fast, though. Shit happens.

Get some practice. http://ageproject.specialsnowflake.com/
