Unattractive choices

For three days now a couple of trucks worth of Verizon guys have been making a huge racket outside my window. Yesterday they even had a cop* there collecting overtime pay for standing around chit-chatting (he’s conspicuously absent today, which casts a little suspicion on the necessity of the important work he was doing yesterday). How many man-hours does it take to put up a telephone pole? 100? 200? Time will tell.

Let me add the pole has been marked as condemned for at least three years, and they’re replacing it before they put (presumably expensive) fiber optic equipment up.

Anyway, it’s listen to the idling engine, the contractor camraderie, the noise from an occasional chainsaw or drill, and go slowly crazy, or close my window and slowly swelter.

* I snapped a couple of pics of the activity yesterday (I’ll post ‘em here later), and he wandered over to ask why I was taking photos. He was pretty easygoing about it, but there is a certain level of unavoidable unpleasantness when an authority figure inquires into the reasons for your perfectly legal activities that don’t require any justifications whatsoever. Which leads me to ask: anybody in the TJICisphere get the dead-tree version of the Advocate (I don’t think the police logs are published in the online version)? Some other of my photography-oriented activities over the weekend attracted the attention of the MWRA, so I’m wondering if a citizen called the cops on me… ;-)

UPDATE: They broke one of their trucks, and had to call for a bigger, louder truck to come and tow it away. Idiots.

Nope. While there have been plenty of calls to the police over turkeys, you apparently didn’t rate one :-)

Is the “he” who wandered over the cop or the contractor?

My responce to his inquiry would have been “I have a website where I post about Arlinton topics- are you installing NSA wiretapping gear?”

Maybe you just looked up to no good. ;-)
