My experience on the Titanic

Well, not really the Titanic, just my basement. With the torrential rains here outside Boston, my newly redone furnished basement was flooded starting Saturday night until about 2am this morning. It was like a sinking ship because after 12 hours of wet-vacing you come to realize that you are not going to win and its time to get the women and children off the ship, or in this case get all the furniture and electronics up on the first floor. Then 24 more hours of sucking as much water up as you can to make sure it doesn’t get too far ahead of you. All on no sleep. A special shout out to blogmate DFF and CK for braving the flooded roads to render assistance only to find out that they could go home 5 min. after showing up. Investment in pumping equipment is in the near future.

In all the misery, a couple of funny moments:

  • While spell checking a recent email, having the system recommend substituting “Wetback” for “Wet-Vac”.
  • Watching employees of home depot forklift 2 more pallets of wet-vacs to the front of the store. The resulting frenzy reminded me of PBS footage of pirahnas stripping the flesh off a Capybara in about 15 seconds, but more violent.

More rain tonight…
