One thing that’s really grabbed my interest lately is East Africa (Somalia in particular). While I’m still waiting for Law of the Somalis to arrive, I’ve been bookmarking lots of interesting news items on the area, which I’ll try to push into some coherent blogform in the next week or two (after a work project is complete). In the meanwhile, though, here’s a cool map of sketchy behavior off the Somali coast. I’ve been reading about piracy, hijacking, kidnapping, firing on USN vessels (hello?!? must’ve been very dark out), and some behavior claiming to be defensive action against foreign violation of fishing rights (Somalis lose $300 million annually to foreigner who accidentally cast nets into their waters).
(via <- note that they have an RSS feed for new maps!)
