Fast company has an interesting article on HR and its failings. It doesn’t say much new, but its a nice summary.
In the various companies I worked for, HR seemed to be where sometimes cute, not motivated or bright, young ladies went to waste time till they got married. Glorified admins. The only men were usually in senior positions, and they seemed to do what they were told- usually by the CFO. Since they used consultants for benefits, and executive search firms for all the difficult hiring, the only thing they seemed to do was introduce speakers at the benefits meetings. Maybe outsourcing will force this to change.

Well, I got about 2/3 of the way through and decided that whatever the author was trying to say could have been said in 1/5 the length, and bagged it. Blowhard alert! ;-)
I actually almost included a “Fast Company” disclaimer. They tend to cover good topics and bring up good points, but usually there is an air of self importance/pomposity in how they say it. After all, there can be only one Wall Street Journal.
Stands to reason. They were born in the go-go years of the late 1990s. You can’t blame an entity for the character imparted by its parents!
