Quick Reviews

Two nights ago I set up 1. Vonage with a 5.4 Mhz phone and 2. A wireless network,

Quick Review:
Vonage-
Super easy- I was chatting on the phone in 15 minutes. Sound quality is better than my AT&T line at my old apartment. Time will tell if the quality is consistant. As of now, I highly recommend it. Because I have a work cell and personal cell, I didn’t want to spend much on a landline so $14.99 sounded pretty good. Included in the deal was a reconditioned Motorola VT1005RB phone adapter for free.

Wireless Network:
I purchases a package containing the Netgear WGR614 router and WG511 PC card for about $60. In about 30 minutes, during which I clicked the mouse a few times, and followed directions, it was all set up. The best part was the range- I was a bit nervous reading review after review of wireless setups with limited ranges, especially since the router was going to sit in the basement, and my office and bedroom are on the second floor. I was getting a full strength signal 2 floors up! The only problems are my 5 year old laptop- the battery is on its last leg and I only have about an hour or so of roaming time, and the rats nest of plugs/powerbricks and wires in the basement. Ah well. Two thumbs up! Tonight I set up security.
