Videos of machine guns vs. katanas, of course!

That’s no commercial, it’s a clip from a japanese variety show. I actually translated it for one of the guys on your old blogroll, Bastard Sword. This is a shortened version of the full clip. You may not know this, but a well made Katana can actually cut bullets in half. Ifyou stabilize a handgun and a katana so that the bullet fires dead even into the katana, you can shoot at it all day and it’ll just keep slicing them in half. Anyway, so this show decided to test whether a katana could stand up to a machine gun. As you can see, it can’t. The first shot goes through fine, but the second hits before the heat can be dissapated, is what I think they said later. It’s actually one katana you’re seeing, the second part is actually shots from a super-fast camera that takes 700 pictures a minute that show you exactly how the thing broke, and how many shots it withstood.
Extremely cool.

Not bad for a gun designed for WWI. All hail John Moses Browning!
