Cool place right near home

I was sailing a couple of weeks ago. Boston to Casco Bay, Maine, and back down the Maine/NH/Mass coast. We spent a night moored at Isle of Shoals. Cool place. 6 miles off the coast of Portsmouth NH. They’re mostly rock with a few feet of soil in some areas. Here’s some pics:

I hope to spend some time next summer sailing and camping on the Boston Harbor Islands. There is something inherently cool about small seacoast islands. Not just the isolation you have so close to highly populated areas, but the feeling of independence and self sufficiency.

And they’re great places to hide if people start turning to brain eating zombies.

But seriously, if you ever want to get a group camping trip going, give a yell; I’ll bring a large tent and a cookstove.

Incredible pictures! I am game to come along! I have only sunk one boat, so I can help sail. :)

The trip is dependent on my ability to build or buy a boat by next summer. Right now I’m limited a sea kayak, which fits…one.

Malls might work, but when those damn biker gangs come, it all falls apart.

I am 100% up for camping on islands. I’ve been wanting to rent a vacation place on one of (Criehaven/Vinalhaven/Isle Au Haut/name other island with properties available and some population) for a long time but could not get spousal unit to agree this was a good idea. Camping lowers the bar. Next summer, what what? We can rent sea kayaks at REI.
