I was listening to the BBC on NPR (The double whammy! I’m a glutton for punishment) this morning on the way to work. They were discussing the failing European pension system, how cuts were going to have to be made, etc. They interviewed an English women who was complaining that she might [...]

When in Rome
The assimilation of Mark Steyn:
HH: That’s why I’ve just posted, and I will be devoting most of today’s show to, a guide to Thanksgiving Day festivities with cranks. That is, how to engage, or not to engage, the crank at the dinner table who wants to debate Bush lied/people died. Are you inviting any cranks [...]
RCN speeds
Better than yesterday… or is it? It’s only been a couple of minutes since installation, but I get significantly different speeds every time I take a measurement - some down in the DSL range.
Some thoughts while painting…

(a quick shoutout to the two tjicistani non-agression pact signatories present, whom the guy with the flip-flops, horrible bed-head and camera pretended not to know while the congregration milled around outside… you’re welcome!)
Cool place right near home
I was sailing a couple of weeks ago. Boston to Casco Bay, Maine, and back down the Maine/NH/Mass coast. We spent a night moored at Isle of Shoals. Cool place. 6 miles off the coast of Portsmouth NH. They’re mostly rock with a few feet of soil in some areas. [...]

Zell Miller:
It’s like a spy thriller. Institutional rivalries and political loyalties have fostered an intelligence officer’s resentment against the government. Suddenly, an opportunity appears for the agent to undercut the national leadership. A vital question of intelligence forms the core justification for controversial military actions by the current leaders. If this agent can get in [...]
