My feeling about TDVC was that I was just barely willing enough to put up with the terrible writing, plotting and characters to find up what little conspiratorial tidbits of fringy pseudo-fact would pop up next. I'd call it a light read, to damn it with the proverbial faint praise.

OTOH, I think the HP books are fairly well written and plotted, with fairly good characters, all of which works to create a certain ambiance which I like enough to keep me reading even though on the whole the enterprise seems somewhat lacking in sophistication... they seem almost like badly-written books for adults instead of well written books for kids, if you know what I mean. As if Rowling was shooting for better but missed. Regardless, I like 'em. Worth the hype? I dunno. Probably not.

Have you even cracked the cover on either? Granted, both are fiction but I find the two of different caliber.

It's interesting to see that things with similar crap content rise to about the same level.
